FURNITURE TO HELP MEET LEED GOALS
Geiger products can contribute to LEED credits for construction waste management, recycled content, regional materials, low-emitting materials, certified wood and innovation in design, depending on the project. Note that no interior furnishings, individually or collectively, can guarantee a specific number of points for LEED certification.
Wood veneer itself is an efficient use of resources. Veneer is sliced from logs into leaves, usually 0.4mm to 0.7mm in thickness. The leaves of veneer are then pressed onto a stable substrate. Using veneer in this way is not only an appropriate and respectful way of using wood, but the result is a much more stable surface that lasts.
Particleboard and medium-density fiberboard used by Geiger meet the Composite Panel Association's Environmentally Preferable Product specification. The boards are made from 100 percent recycled or recovered fiber, which is mixed with resin to create a very stable substrate. The result is a board that is fully compliant with ANSI standards for product emissions.
INDOOR ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY
Geiger is solving the problem of air emissions due to VOCs through several measures, including:
introduction of water-based finishes
conversion from solvent-based to water-based adhesives
introduction of water-based stains
addition of robotic spray equipment
introduction of UV-cured, roll-coat technology
reduction in the amount of solvents used for clean-ups
With the help of its suppliers, Geiger was one of the first companies in the world to develop and use water-based urethane coatings. In addition, Geiger employs an environmentally friendly finishing process (UV-cured roll-coating), which virtually eliminates VOCs.
Geiger manufactures several GREENGUARD-certified products, including wood-framed seating, Geiger Levels casegoods, and Tablet casegoods with the GREENGUARD finish package, at no additional cost. All Geiger GREENGUARD-certified products also comply with the ANSI/BIFMA x7.1-2007/m7.1-2007 standard. In addition, NAF (no-added-formaldehyde) board is available upon request.
Casegoods and conference furniture made at Geiger's Fulton (Atlanta) facility are manufactured using FSC-certified particleboard, medium-density fiberboard and drawer boxes, excluding only a few minor components, at no additional cost. Geiger International's FSC license number is FSC C002041. Optional FSC-certified veneer is available upon request, depending on market availability.
