A table group inspired by geometry, Brabo features a sensitive mixture of metal, wood and leather that complements the lounge seating of the same name. Taming such a mixed-media composition requires a refined aesthetic and impeccable editing. "There was a lot of fine tuning to arrive at just the right balance of materials," says designer Vincent Van Duysen. "The subtlety of the transitions was essential. It had to be beautiful from every angle." Brabo includes a side table and a coffee table in solid ash or solid walnut and one of three metal finishes. Tops can be specified in wood or leather.
According to folklore, Van Duysen’s home city of Antwerp was named from the legend of a mythical giant who lived near the river Scheldt. He exacted a toll from those crossing the river; for those who refused, he severed one of their hands and threw it into the river. Eventually, the giant was slain by a young hero named Brabo, who cut off the giant’s own hand and flung it into the river. Antwerp was later named from the Dutch hand werpen, “throwing hand.”
