Geiger Creates the World of the Collaborative Executive for NeoCon 2011

Geiger International introduces a new showroom experience for its Merchandise Mart location for NeoCon 2011. The showroom is transformed into the C-level floor of a corporate headquarters building, complete with public areas, meeting spaces, a chairman's suite, enclosed offices and an executive suite, in an environment created for the "Collaborative Executive".


Welcome to the Top Floor
Designed as a progression of spaces from public to private, the Collaborative Executive concept illustrates the current evolution in the way today's executives work. The showroom design acknowledges that the types of interactions and work an executive does in a given day are less predictable and require new flexibility. Whether collaborating with internal constituencies, meeting with outside audiences or performing heads-down tasks, the Collaborative Executive requires spaces appropriately equipped, with furniture and with technology, for each of these scenarios.


At first glance, the furniture makes a dramatic statement in wood and color. A new palette of matte wood finishes was developed for the display, building on Geiger's classic colors with finishes that broaden the spectrum while accentuating the natural beauty of the ash and oak species featured. This palette makes its debut in Chicago at NeoCon.


The Changing Ways of Working Together
Beyond the first impression, the vignettes show how residential sensibilities continue to filter into the work environment, further reflecting the changing ways office work is accomplished. Based on fresh interpretations of Geiger's successful Tablet and Levels casegoods collections, the furniture configurations mix highly structured, rectilinear forms with a rich palette of fine leathers, textiles, marble and wood. The resulting combinations simultaneously emphasize comfort, modernism, collaboration and corporate image, in furniture thoughtfully integrated into the interior architecture, just as custom millwork would be.


Designed by Geiger creative directors Craig Bassam and Scott Fellows, of Connecticut-based BassamFellows, the new showroom experience simultaneously references the past while paving the way for tomorrow's executive environments. Scott Fellows of BassamFellows explains, "When we were researching the Geiger archives, we came across a vintage article from The New York Times that described Geiger designer Ward Bennett's style as 'Minimalism Made Sensual'. We think the quote perfectly describes the Geiger lifestyle vision, and we wanted the space to reflect it."


Fellows adds, "The component casegoods are configured to appear as fine custom cabinetry. The new matte finishes reveal the natural beauty and subtle variation of the wood grain. And, extensive use of stone, leather, and wool flannel add to the 'high-touch' nature of the space."


New Seating and Table Introductions for NeoCon
The furniture combinations set the stage for Geiger's newest introductions, the Sotto executive chair, designed by George Simons Jr.; Loophole occasional tables, designed by Jay Chapman; and Tuxedo Component Lounge, designed by Geiger creative directors, BassamFellows. Visitors are invited to experience the world of the Collaborative Executive for themselves during NeoCon at Geiger International's showroom at the Merchandise Mart, on the third floor in suite 318.
