“I really wanted to find the right balance between me as an architect and dealing with space and light and then bringing in that human touch through the use of beautiful, natural materials.”

Van Duysen’s designs and his architectural projects are deeply intertwined. His furniture pieces act as rescaled interpretations of his architectural work. With a sense of purity and essentialism, each piece remains tactile and grounded. Subsequently, many of his designs reflect a deep respect for context and tradition, resulting in a clean and timeless aesthetic.

Van Duysen’s work has been featured widely, with several monographs published since 1994. He is a recipient of the Flemish Culture Prize for Design, Belgian Designer of the Year award at the Silver Jubilee edition of Interieur Kortrijk, Henry van de Velde Lifetime Achievement Award, and an EDIDA for Best Interior Designer of the Year. Van Duysen has also appeared on Architectural Digest’s AD100 list and the ELLE Decor A-List on multiple occasions.
