Leeway Chair

Maximum freedom in a minimal footprint

The Leeway Chair is designer Keiji Takeuchi’s first furniture design for a US-based company. Takeuchi drew upon Geiger’s strength in woodcraft to sculpt a crescent-shaped, cantilevered backrest. This approach opens up the side chair typology to better accommodate the side-to-side movements people make while socializing or collaborating.

Just Enough Elbow Room

The crescent-shaped, cantilevered backrest supports propped elbows and allows for the natural movements that occur during meetings and conversation.

Graceful Simplicity

Leeway’s curved backrest is supported only by the two back legs that extend up to meet it, a detail integral to the chair’s unique design.

Versatile Form, Various Finishes

The Leeway Chair comes in all-wood, or with metal frames and a choice of wood or polyurethane seats and backrests. Wood seats can also be upholstered.

Design Story

The Leeway Seating form emerged from designer Keiji Takeuchi’s desire to accommodate the natural movements of the body. “My work was not done until people were happy to sit.” Takeuchi says. “If people have any hesitation choosing my chair over something else, that means something is missing.”
